Within the geographies of identity and culture, our learning target is to allow students the opportunity describe how places - locations and spaces - inform their culture and how their culture makes up their identity.

How are you a person of the world? Within this unit, students will evaluate the benefits and costs of globalization and its effect on culture, people, health, environment, and the economy. From this evaluation, students will construct their own mission statement to describe their role as a globalized citizen.

Language Figure DiscussionStudents analyze the affects of language through the lens of diffusion, policy, and globalism to understand how 'place' can affect culture.

US Census & EthnicityStudents develop an understanding of how people identify in terms of race and ethnicity through the lens of the U.S. Census.

Gender NormsStudents discuss gender norms as social constructs set by society and determine if they could be considered stereotypes. Looking at gender norms in our own lives and different countries allows students to evaluate the role of 'place' in gender identities.
Clothing Origins Students discover how interconnected they are with the world through an analysis of the origin of their clothes and navigating the Global Closet Calculator online activity. Students will complete an accompanying worksheet and then make decisions as a jean company informed by their global awareness.

ProS/Cons of GlobalizationStudents evaluate the pros/cons or in other words, benefits and disadvantages of globalization based on evidence from different articles. Identifying and reasoning through pros/cons allows students to gather evidence to support their opinion in a class-wide debate.
